Valentine Poems

by Sophya Polevaya

The Hourglass

The confetti rain
keeps falling,
falling,
falling

one ink dot at a time.

I think of you
remembering
not your words
instead
I see it
that small memory
we shared
reappearing before me
from nothing
each day
since we parted
a hallucinatory film.

The confetti rain
keeps falling,
falling,
falling

one pitter-patter beat at a time.

I wait for you,
at distance
you are
to me
but yet
I hear it
that fragile
flageolet
of your voice
saying my name
and yours
in
ostinato
lightly played in the air
following me
wherever I go
no longer am I
truly alone.

The confetti rain
keeps falling,
falling,
falling

one paper petal at a time.

Then again it falls
the rain.
It falls,
and falls
and falls
unable to soar
back upwards
rewinding us
to that moment
before our life cords
crossed over
forming an
X.

I dream of it
over and
over again,
not wanting to
trying to make
sense of it
that image
of double Os
2
breves entwined
the hourglass
seen by
my eyes closed
over and
over again,
time unravelling by...

Then all at once
the rain stopped.
Your eyes are
in front of me
the ampule of time
paused:
a golden
fermata.

A Rosy Red

Dear One,

I think of you…
a LOT.
More than I
really should!
But…
I like to.
A
pansy garland
of purply blue
for my daydream
curiosity…
YOU!

A lady’s slipper
that’s me,
a shoe-lover
called Cindy,
a bachelor button
that’s you…
the traditional romantic.
two single
wildflowers
free spirited
pink and blue.

I know
you would rather
call me your
Sweet Pea
and you hope that
I would say
you’re my counterpart
a
Sweet William
my desired prince
offering this corsage:
a camellia red for
that wildfire
of our temperaments,
an
amaryllis
for that eye twinkle,
a
rosy red,
a carmine
carnation.
a ruby
chrysanthemum,
a bunch of
red, red, red
and more red
the whole sweethearts’ dozen.

But you see…
it is in fact
love in a mist
everything hazy
washed out words
and flat fizz
here’s a
bittersweet
for the truth.

A valentine bouquet
for dear you!

Kernel

Mysterious
you are
the
auburn rose
encased in
my chest.

You silently
guide me
through the
wild woodland
of choice and
changing guises
the light and
shadow play
of life.

For life
we are
together
weaved
as one.

Your stem
and my spine
plaited
your
thorns
carved upon
this braid
their grains
created from
gained wisdom
awakening
my inner strength.

Your leaves
a collage of
breathing fibres
our shared
washi parchment
to write on
for our secrets.

Your petals
sweet red velvet
delicate on touch
yet hold
the weight of
my joys
as gold charms
and my laments
as fresh tear water pearls
on an
ever-growing
chain of captured
memories
my own cinematic loops
made from
chance strings.

Inside your fleshy cerise
a closed aperture
kernel
hiding
the golden set of keys
to the self
and all the senses.

The heart.
